Magazines/Databases heading

Most databases require a password, which is usually the 14-digit number of your library card entered with no spaces. Other databases require a username and password which you can obtain by calling the Library at 223-6228. We offer a wide variety of databases including those that offer magazine, journal and newspaper articles; research databases on specific subjects such as literature, music, art, science, business, health and readers' advisory. Additional databases are available for research in the library.

Biography
  • Biography Resource Center - Full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search.
Business
  • ABI/Inform - Includes scholarly, trade and local and regional business publications.
  • Business and Company ASAP - Information on companies, markets and industries.
  • Business & Company Resource Center - Detailed company and industry news and information from Gale, including company profiles, brand information, industry rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, and periodical articles. Available via EmpireLink, a project of the NY State Library, federally funded by LSTA grants.
  • Business Source Premier - As the world's largest full text business database, Business Source Premier provides full text for more than 3,000 scholarly business journals, including full text for nearly 1000 peer-reviewed publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business and is updated on a daily basis.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library - click on 'View Publications' beside the word 'Business'.
  • General Business File ASAP - Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends. Access a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and company directory listings with full text and images available.
  • Investext Plus - find investment, company and industry reports from over 500 brokers in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
  • Newsletters ASAP - information from specialized business, industry and technology newsletters issued by various news services and industry watchers.
  • PROMT - Predicast Overview of Markets and Technology. Research on companies, the products and technologies they produce, and the markets in which they compete. Includes business and trade journals, industry newsletters, newspapers, market research studies, news releases, and investment and brokerage firm reports.
  • Regional Business News - coverage from 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas of the United States.
Children
  • Discovering Collection - Geared toward middle and high school students. Includes reference content for the areas of Geography and Cultures, History, Biographies, and Social Studies.
  • EBSCO Searchasaurus - Full text articles for children and young adults. It includes a general encyclopedia and an encyclopedia of animals.
  • InfoTrac - Junior and Kids Editions - Magazines, reference books and newspapers for information on the elementary and middle-school levels.
  • Kids Search - Similiar to Searchasaurus but has a new graphically-rich look and feel.
  • Middle Search Plus - Provides full text for nearly 140 popular magazines for middle and jr. high school research, primary source documents, and an image collection.
  • Novelist K-8 - Discover current and classic fiction titles that are popular with young readers. Contains materials for all K-8 grade levels and includes picture books, children's "chapter" books and young adult titles.
  • Student Research Center - includes primary source documents as well as magazines, newspapers, biographies, radio and television transcripts, encyclopedias, images and country reports, for grades 1 through 12.
  • TumbleBooks - Collection of talking, animated picture books, puzzles, and quizzes. Includes resources for teachers.

  • Career Cruising - an interactive career resource designed for people of all ages. Includes career matching quiz and college selection questionnaires. In English and Spanish.

  • Computer Source - Full text articles on computers, telecommunications, electronics and the Internet, a balance of full text technical journals and full text consumer computer titles.
Downloadable Audiobooks
  • netLibrary/Recorded Books - Download audio books to your computer or MP3 player (must be able to play Windows Media Audio files--Macs and iPods not compatible). Over 1400 titles available.
Education
  • ERIC - ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.
  • Professional Development Collection - Contains approximately 550 full text education journals and more than 200 educational reports.

  • AccessScience - McGraw-Hill's Encyclopedia of Science & Technology.
  • Credo Reference - A virtual reference library that provides access to hundreds of reference books in one easy interface. Includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, thesauri, quotation books, and subject-specific reference books on every topic from business to literature to technology.
  • Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia - For students and adults alike (access through EBSCO).
  • Grolier Online - Multimedia encyclopedias and resources provide quick access to factual information as well as broad overviews of general subjects. Includes New Book of Knowledge and Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia.

  • HeritageQuest Online - Collection of research materials for census data, family records and local histories. If you have difficulty accessing this database, please call HeritageQuest Technical Support at 1-800-889-3358 for assistance.
