GUIDELINES

  • Participants must be entering Grades 6 - 12 as of September 2008.
  • Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, June 4 at the Summer Reading Club Welcome Party. Teens may enroll in the Summer Reading Club any time during the months of June and July.
  • Complete an online "mini-review" form for each book you read. This year, once again, we will aim to read six books. Submit mini-reviews on-line from June 4 through August 6. Computers will be available in the Teen Zone for your convenience. Paper mini-review forms will also be available in the Teen Zone.
  • Prizes will be given out, in the Teen Zone, after teens read their first, third, and sixth books.
  • Teens who read @ least two books will be invited to our End of the Summer Pizza Party on Wednesday, August 13, and will receive a Reading Certificate and be awarded a free Blockbuster family video rental.

PARTY
Participants who read and submit two or more mini-reviews will receive an invitation to our Summer Reading Club Party on Wednesday, August 13 from 6:00 - 8:15PM. Celebrate and enjoy the magic of Amore, pizza, soft drinks and prizes! Respond by Monday, August 11.

 

PRIZES
Prizes will be given out after teens read their first, third, and sixth books. Prizes will also be awarded after the summer to the three readers who read the most books.
All teens who read six books will be presented with a "Certificate of Participation". Present your certificate at Blockbuster Video on Merrick Road in Baldwin and receive a free "family" video rental.

 

SUMMER READING LISTS

Students entering Grades 6-12 will find book titles and a list of their required reading assignments in the Teen Zone. The reading lists are also available on-line. Go to the Teen Zone homepage and click on "Summer Reading Lists."

 

TEEN SUMMER PROGRAMS

All summer teen programs from June 4 - August 20 are FREE!

Registration is required for all teen programs.

Enroll in the Summer Reading Club, consume a few munchies and hang out with your friends.

Registration for "Metamorphosis @ Your Library," Summer Reading Club begins on June 4 @ 6:00PM. Teens may enroll in the Summer Reading Club any time during the months of June and July.

Japanese Manga Anime Workshop

Learn to draw in the popular style of Japanese Manga.

Registration begins on Wednesday, June 4 in the Teen Zone.

Yoga for Teens

Teens love it because it makes fitness fun, increases self-esteem and positive emotions. All you need is some comfy clothing, a yoga mat and a notebook or journal.

Registration begins on Wednesday, June 4, in the Teen Zone.

A medical release form must be signed by a parent @ time of registration.

TAG! You're It!

Join the "Teen Advisory Group" (TAG). Be a part of the changes @ your library! Help brainstorm ideas and make friends. Registration for TAG is ongoing. If you have any questions about TAG do not hesitate to call.

Patrick Jones is the author of four realistic teen novels: Things Change, Nailed, Chasing Tail Lights, and Cheated. Sponsored by the Baldwin and Massapequa Public Libraries.

Learn about the fashion industry from an experienced fashion designer!

Make Your Own Smoothies

Teens will work in small groups, each with their own recipe, blender and ingredients.

Model Airplane Workshop

Join model airplane hobbyist Dennis Hernandez who will help teens to create and design a model airplane as they also learn about aerodynamics.

Tai Chi with Ai-Ying

Join the Teen Zone and learn the history of Tai Chi as well as performing basic moves.
