Teen Summer Reading Club 2010 - Make Waves @ Your Library



GUIDELINES

  • Participants must be entering Grades 6 - 12 as of September 2010.
  • Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, June 9 at the Summer Reading Club Welcome Party from 6:30 to 8:15PM. Teens may enroll in the Summer Reading Club any time during the months of June and July.
  • Complete an online "mini-review" form for each book you read. This year, once again, we will aim to read six books. Submit mini-reviews on-line from June 9 through July 31. Computers will be available in the Teen Zone for your convenience. Paper mini-review forms will also be available in the Teen Zone.
  • Prizes will be given out, in the Teen Zone, after teens read their first and sixth book.
  • Teens who read @ least two books will be invited to our End of the Summer Pizza Party on Wednesday, August 4. Teens who read six or more books will receive a Reading Certificate and be awarded a free Blockbuster family video rental.

PARTY
Participants who read and submit two or more mini-reviews will receive an invitation to our Summer Reading Club Party on Wednesday, August 4 from 6:00 - 8:30PM. Please respond to invitation by calling Jill @ 223-6228 ext. 43 or via teens@baldwinpl.org by Saturday, July 31. Come celebrate - Pizza party and prizes galore.

 

PRIZES
Three additional prizes will be awarded at the end of the Summer Reading Club. Prizes will be given to the teen who wrote the best book review, the teen who read the most realistic fiction and the teen who read the most amount of comics and graphic novels.


SUMMER READING LISTS

Students entering Grades 6-12 will find book titles and a list of their required reading assignments in the Teen Zone. The reading lists are also available on-line. Go to the Teen Zone homepage and click on "Summer Reading Lists."

Make Waves @ Your Library
Summer Reading Welcome Party


Sign up for the Summer Reading Club, hang out with friends, enjoy some refreshments and listen to Bach 2 Rock. Violinist Caryn Lin puts on an electrified and reinvented performance as she doesn't simply play the violin she takes it where no human has ever dared.

Registration begins Wednesday, June 9 and is ongoing until the end of July.

The Teen Summer Reading Club is for teens entering Grades 6-12 in the Fall. Register and report online or in person! Registration begins
on June 9. Grand finale party for teens is on August 4.

Knit or Knot

Knotting is a looser form of knitting. We will make a scarf using this fun and easy to learn technique. Pizza will be served!

Babysitting Workshop

Plan on earning money by babysitting this summer? Then learn how to be a successful babysitter during this two-hour workshop presented by registered nurses, Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso. The nurses will introduce important babysitting skills and teach basic first aid. Please remember to bring a large, soft doll to practice diapering.

There is a $5.00 (non-refundable) registration fee. Certificates will be issued to those who attend the workshop.

Teen Actor's Workshop

"Teaching self-expression through performance,"
Teen Actor's workshop will promote confidence & public speaking. Most important it's lots of fun. You will learn various methods of performance through improvisation. During the last class, session 4, you will present to parents/family/friends.

Teens, Tots and Tales

Are you interested in reading to a tot while earning community service credit? If so, Teens, Tots & Tales is for you. Certificates for community service credit will be awarded at the end of the summer. You must meet with Jill Holleufer on an individual basis for training to be a part of this exciting program.

TAG You're It!

Be a part of the changes @ your library! What books, video games, programs, and services do you want in the Teen Zone? If you're looking to shape teen services, join us! Become a TAG member, brainstorm ideas with other teens and help represent the teen community as advocates for teen issues and concerns. TAG membership is open to all teens in grades 6-12. We will keep a record of your hours of participation so you can use it to help fulfill your community service requirements for school.
